How to Set up all your favourite settings after a fresh Windows XP install

Here we highlight many of the options you will want to enable now that Windows XP has finished installing

Go to Control Panel (switch it to classic view) and adjust the following:

Display

Adjust the resolution to 1024 x 768 pixels.
Click Customize Desktop to put My Computer, My Documents etc on desktop.
For ClearType font Choose Appearance tab and click Effects

Folder Options

Open any folder. Click Tools, Folder Options.
Select your preferences from the four tabs.

View status bar info

Open any folder. Click View, Status Bar.

Taskbar

Tick on Show Quick Launch
In Star Menu tab check options in Customize, General & Advanced tabs

System

Choose Advanced tab and un-tick sluggish visual effects

Sound

Tick “Place volume icon in the taskbar”

To select the advanced search options

Click on the desktop and press [F3]
Click Change preferences
Change files and folders search behaviour
Check-mark Advanced …
