To stop this “feature” in Windows XP, right-click a blank bit of the taskbar, go in to properties, uncheck “Group Similar Taskbar Buttons”.
Click OK and enjoy ungrouped bliss.
Go to the Start Menu and the Run box (Or press Windows-key + R)
Type in the following:
control userpasswords2
followed by the Enter key.
In the new Windows that appears select the account you wish to make the primary logon.
Uncheck the “Users must enter a username and password…” box.
Hit Apply and a dialog box will appear asking you to confirm the selected users password.
Click OK when you are done!

Generate a file ending in .reg will the following text, ensuring that the first line is actually on the first line in the file.

Get the trial version of X-Setup from http://www.x-setup.net/. Install it, it should appear in your control panel. Auto Login: Run in classic mode, go to startup/shutdown, startup, windows, autologin and set accordingly. Leave 'count' blank. “Classic” swlcome screen: Change the “Login window type” in X-setup (see previous point)
